RIEM at SWUFE was established in 2006. Dedicated to high-quality teaching and research in economics, finance, and management, RIEM aims to become an internationally recognized research center and a leading Chinese think tank.
RIEM is a highly internationalized institute. All of its faculty members hold doctoral degrees from well-established universities around the world, including those in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Sweden, Singapore etc. RIEM has 56 full-time faculty members, including 21 professors, 24 associate professors. Their research has been published in top international journals such as Nature, PNAS, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Review, and Management Science, as well as in domestic authoritative journals like Economic Research Journal and Management World.
RIEM has undertaken over 60 ministerial-level or higher vertical research projects, including the "111 Program" (Program of Introducing Disciplines to Innovative Universities). It has also collaborated on more than 150 projects with organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the China International Poverty Reduction Center, the Research Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Alibaba, and Ant Financial.
RIEM offers 19 full English-taught programs: 4 bachelor’s programs, 8 master’s programs, and 7 PhD programs. Currently, more than 1000 students are studying at RIEM, 22% of whom are international students around the world.
RIEM frequently invites scholars from various countries for teaching and research collaboration. Invited speakers make presentations on their working papers at RIEM's weekly seminar series. In addition, RIEM hosts several international conferences every year on diverse subjects in the fields of economics and management. RIEM will continue to strive to became a leading teaching and research institution featuring world-class academic research and national-leading policy studies with great social impact and public trust.
