On November 21st, RIEM held the second Frontiers of Environmental Economics and Management Forum at its Liulin Campus. The forum brought together young scholars from Peking University, Duke Kunshan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and other universities to discuss frontier issues in environmental, agricultural, public, and development economics, aiming to promote interdisciplinary innovation and cooperation.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Chen Xiaoguang from RIEM, and Professor Dong Yan, the Executive Dean of RIEM, delivered a speech. Professor Dong Yan emphasized the significance of environmental economics and management research for global ecological civilization construction and sustainable development, and stated that the forum would provide a platform for young scholars to exchange and showcase their ideas, effectively promoting disciplinary deepening and academic cooperation.
The conference featured eight presentations. In the morning session, Wang Xiao from Duke Kunshan University, Chen Luoye from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and Long Xianling from Peking University respectively discussed pollution rumors and housing prices, the benefits of endangered species protection, and the health impacts of genetically modified crops, providing new evidence for environmental policy and public health research.
In the afternoon session, He Xinyue, Yang Yuhao, Xu Bing, Qian Yiwei, and other scholars from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics focused on topics such as agricultural futures markets, typhoon adaptation strategies, educational incentive mechanisms, child development assessment, and immigrant entrepreneurship, demonstrating the frontier and diversity of the field.
The topics of this conference were diverse, and the participating scholars utilized cutting-edge methods such as causal inference and machine learning, demonstrating the innovative capabilities and practical orientation of young researchers. The forum concluded successfully amidst lively discussions.
