On November 15th, the Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Research Institute of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics(SWUFE) was officially unveiled and established. This marks another significant step taken by the university to align with the national "dual carbon" goals, strengthen interdisciplinary integration, and serve green development. It signifies a new phase in the university's research in the field of climate finance. The Vice President of SWUFE Wang Qing attended the unveiling ceremony and delivered a speech.
Wang Qing pointed out that as a university-level research institution, Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Research Institute, relying on RIEM, adheres to the mission of "serving national strategies, leading academic innovation, and facilitating green transformation". It will focus on the frontiers of carbon neutrality and climate finance theory and practice, delve deeply into key areas such as green finance, climate risk management, and energy transformation, and strive to build an open and shared research platform, a high-end policy think tank, and a hub of professional talents. Through the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, it will provide intellectual support and institutional innovation solutions for the green and low-carbon transformation of the country and regions.
Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Research Institute was initiated and established by the university and Chongqing Xingshidai Technology Development Co., Ltd. Professor Zhang Dayong, the Director of Carbon Neutrality and Climate Finance Research Institute and also a professor at RIEM, stated that the institute will strive to become a core carrier for research paradigm innovation and discipline development at the university, and aims to establish a climate finance research center with international influence that is based in the western region and has a nationwide impact.
Hosted by the Climate Finance Research Branch of the Chinese Society for Optimal and Economic Mathematics, and co-organized by SWUFE, the 3rd China Energy and Climate Finance Thirty-Person Forum will be held subsequently. Experts and scholars from more than 20 top universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, gathered in Chengdu to jointly witness the establishment of the research institute.
