Abstract
Our research is based on a quasi-natural experiment provided by China's farmland registration policy from 2014 to 2018. Using individual-level survey data and a staggered difference-in-differences model, we found that land registration significantly increased the probability of farmers starting their own businesses. This effect is particularly pronounced in regions with more robust market support systems. The research results indicate that reforms to farmland title confirmation policies can reduce uncertainty, unleash the economic potential of illiquid assets, and activate previously suppressed entrepreneurial motivation.
